This course is focused on research, rhetoric, and composition with an emphasis on multimodality. Throughout the semester we will read and discuss texts, and we will make tools to help us analyze and construct our own multimodal texts. We will examine how meaning is construed through images, sounds, arrangements, colors, shapes, movements, sizes, and fonts. Ultimately, the purpose of multimodal composing is to encourage you to ask the question what makes for an effective multimodal text?

In this course we will be composing in a variety of modes and genres, and we will not privilege one mode over another. We will attempt to understand and respect the distinct logics of the linguistic, spatial, aural, gestural, visual, and audio modes of communication.
